Silver Efex Pro 2 Announced

Nik Software just announced Silver Efex Pro 2 (SEP2), a major upgrade to their award winning program.
When the original version was released in 2008, it was hailed as a major advance in B&W processing. I would have been hard pressed to suggest any significant changes and improvements. Amazingly, Nik’s upgrade is more than the usual nibbling at the edges. It adds great new features as well as improvements to the existing capabilities. The best just got significantly better.
Over the next several weeks, before¬† SEP2’s February release, I’ll discuss SEP2 and demonstrate some of its features.
As a preliminary introduction, I’ll note that everything in the following image was done in SEP2 –

  • B&W conversion
  • Selective coloring
  • Toning
  • Vignette
  • Arty Border
  • Last, but not least, SEP2 can run in a (unadvertised) standalone mode so when I said that this image was done 100% in SEP2 that’s what I meant – not even Photoshop to act as a plug-in host. (SEP2 does not have a RAW conversion capability. It depends on a plug-in host or the user to perform this step.)

It’s not the best example image (I’m away from home and my photo archives for a week) but is illustrative. Maybe I can capture a better image today.
